Mrs. Cheney, Mrs. Wilcox, and Mrs. Garcia’s 7th-grade ELA students are kicking off the first quarter by exploring background information on the four independent reading books they’ll get to choose from. The students pictured are learning about the importance of clean water—a valuable resource that’s often taken for granted.

💙 In the first week of school, Mrs. Savino’s third graders focused on building classroom community! After listening to the story“The Legend of Rock Paper Scissors,” students joined in a class-wide competition while practicing the Go Blue traits of understanding, optimism, and bravery. Way to start the year strong, third graders!

GCS has officially woken up from its summer slumber!
The school year kicked off with our annual New Hire Mentor-Intern Day, followed by the full return of staff to campus. This exciting start provided an opportunity for both new and returning educators to come together, collaborate, and prepare for the year ahead.
We would like to extend a special thank you to our student guest speakers, Hazel Morgan and Natalie Capel, who shared powerful messages with our staff about the lasting impact teachers have on their students. Their words served as a meaningful reminder of the important work our educators do each and every day.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR SUPERINTENDENT, MICHAEL BOSTWICK:
Dear Geneseo CSD Community,
It is with great joy, gratitude, and genuine enthusiasm that I introduce myself as the new Superintendent of the Geneseo Central School District. As I step into this role, I am deeply honored to begin this next chapter of my educational journey alongside all of you.
First and foremost, I’m a proud husband and father. My wife, Elisabeth, is also an educator, having served as a classroom teacher and instructional coach, and now works with educators across the country through her role with an educational technology company. We have two incredible sons: Julian, who is entering his senior year at UNC Wilmington studying Business Administration, and Nolan, a recent graduate of Horseheads High School, who will begin his own journey at SUNY Oswego this fall, also majoring in Business Administration.
Over the course of my career, I’ve served in a variety of roles as a teacher, STEM curriculum coach, and building principal. Most recently, I had the privilege of leading a dynamic middle level school community for 13 years. These experiences have shaped my belief in the power of relationships, the importance of listening, and the unwavering need to keep students at the heart of every decision we make.
My passion lies in fostering environments where students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. I am committed to ensuring that every learner in Geneseo is equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to pursue their passions and make meaningful contributions in a challenging world. That includes championing equity, promoting innovation, and ensuring that excellence is not just an aspiration, but an expectation for every child.
As I step into this new role, I do so with a deep belief that our greatest strength lies in collaboration. The partnership between schools, families, and the community is essential to student success. I am eager to listen, learn, and work together with you to build upon the district’s rich legacy and the incredible work already happening within Geneseo CSD.
In the coming months, I will prioritize being visible and accessible. I plan to host listening sessions, meet with staff and families, visit classrooms, and engage with community stakeholders. These conversations will help me better understand our collective hopes, challenges, and opportunities and will lay the foundation for the work we’ll do together. In the near future, I’ll be sending out a link to a form to collect everyone’s input, as this is extremely important to me to gain your insights.
I am truly excited about the future of Geneseo Central School District. Together, we will continue to grow a culture of excellence, empathy, and possibility; one where every student is empowered to succeed and every voice is valued. Every student deserves the chance to explore their passions and learn about real-world opportunities well before graduation. By connecting learning to life beyond school, we will help them make confident, informed choices about their future.
Thank you for the warm welcome I’ve already received. I look forward to meeting many of you in the weeks ahead and beginning this meaningful work together. GO BLUE!
Warm regards,
Michael Bostwick
Superintendent of Schools
