OT Treatment Plan Ideas

Mrs. Olsen’s Occupational Therapy Plan Ideas

  1. Strengthening warm-up (Get the body ready- Pick 3 exercises per therapy session)
  • Crab walk a distance of 25 feet (challenge child not to let their bottom touch the floor
  • Bear walk a distance of 25 feeet
  • Plank hold (ideally 15-20 seconds repeat twice)
  • Yoga Poses- I love Cosmic Kids Yoga videos on youtube or chose simple poses that address strength/stability (downward dog, cat/cow, etc.)
  • Donkey Kicks- Have the child place his hands on a mat directly below his shoulders with fingers pointing straight ahead. Start with both feet to one side and “kick” up and over to the opposite side. His body weight should be on his open palms and on his/her tiptoes, and ankles should be touching at all times.
  • Wheelbarrow walking: The child walks on his hands, with an adult supporting the ankles.
  • Wall Push-ups: Have the child place both hands on the wall even with their shoulders, have them take a giant step backwards with hands still on the wall, have them bend their arms and move their body inward toward the well then back out.
  • Bicep curls using soup cans- have the child hold a soup can in each hand while standing, start with arms at sides then bend elbows and bring soup cans up toward shoulders- repeat the exercise 10 times
  • Create an obstacle course and have your child crawl and climb around, under, and over household items
  1. Fine Motor Readiness (dexterity) activity (pick one per therapy session)
  • Use tweezers to pick up small items (mini marshmallows, small cotton balls, legos, etc.
  • Squeeze play-doh
  • Pull small items out of play-doh or putty (small beads, buttons, coins, legos, etc.)
  • Stringing beads, small pasta rings, cheerios, etc.
  • Clothing fasteners
  • Paint with Q-tips
  • Scissor skills (make a fun craft)
  1. Oculomotor skills/ Visual Perceptual skill development (pick 1-2 per treatment session)
  • Mazes
  • Puzzles
  • Hidden Picture ( I love the Highlights website for this activity)
  • I Spy with My Little Eye
  • Flashlight tag
  • Build items with legos and have the child copy what you’ve made
  • Hide items around the room and have your child find them
  • Where’s waldo
  • Word searches, Spot the differences, Dot-to-Dot activities
  • Color by number worksheets
  1. IEP specific goal activities- this will be individualized for each student that I treat. You should have recieved a copy of your child's goal in the mail with specific treatment steps.
