Teacher and five students who are holding violins

The following updates are to congratulate our music students on all their hard work this past fall, as well as during this current winter music season.

On Wednesday, Nov. 9, band and chorus students from GCS participated in the Genesee Valley School Music Association’s All-County Solo Festival. These students, in addition to handling their regular music workload, prepared solos that were performed for an adjudicator. Based on the scores they received, several students were chosen to be members of select music ensembles at a variety of festivals in the region. Additionally, several of our orchestra students were selected to participate in the Finger Lakes Music Educators Association All-County West Festival in Canandaigua.

This highly competitive solo festival included students from 13 participating school districts with several GCS students receiving scores that placed them at the top of their respective sections in these elite ensembles. Congratulations to these fine musicians and to their music teachers, both past and present, for their hard work and dedication.

On Friday and Saturday, Jan. 27-28, the following students performed in the All-Country Music Festival in Perry:

Lincoln Donegan, Reagan Donegan, Elena Kolberg, Maggie Lane, Ben Mallaber, Dominic Manzo, Katie Pearson, Emma Prinzi and Lorelei Weingaertner performed with the GVSMA Junior High School Chorus; sixth graders Ian Amati, Marietta Amati, Grayson Bynres, Ellie Ward, David West and Toby Yarowsky performed with the GVSMA 5-6 Band.

On Friday and Saturday, Feb. 3-4, the following students will be performing in the All-Country Music Festival in Warsaw:

Simon Aguilar, Jamie Ferrero and Juliette West will be performing with the GVSMA Junior High School Band; Anna Ferrero and Gianna Cucchiara will be performing with the GVSMA Senior High School Chorus.

Also that weekend, Feb. 3-4, the following students will be participating in the All-County Music Festival in Canandaigua:

Wow! Congratulations again to our talented musicians! What an impressive all-county festival season!
