Mr. Veley

The Geneseo Central School District is proud to announce the appointment of Mr. Craig Veley as the permanent Middle/High School Principal. After serving in the interim role throughout the 2024–2025 school year, Mr. Veley will officially continue in the position—bringing nearly two decades of dedication to the GCS community into this next chapter of leadership.

Mr. Veley began his career at Geneseo in 2007, the same year he completed his School Administrator and School District Administrator credentials from SUNY Brockport. He previously earned a Bachelor of Science in Education/Physical Education from SUNY Cortland. Since then, he has become a familiar and trusted figure in the district.

“My time at Geneseo has given me a comprehensive understanding of our school culture, the strengths of our students and staff, and the opportunities we have to grow,” said Mr. Veley. “I’ve been committed to fostering a positive learning environment and building strong relationships with students, families, and faculty.”

Mr. Veley says his goals center on ensuring that “all students feel seen, supported, and challenged,” while also preparing them to “thrive in college, careers, and citizenship.” He emphasized the importance of collaboration, adding, “By working together with all stakeholders,we can strengthen our commitment to both academic excellence and character development.” 

Interim Superintendent Dr. Jon Hunter praised Mr. Veley’s leadership and work ethic, calling him “an advocate for faculty and students” who “cares deeply about our students and the Geneseo culture.” He added, “Clearly, Mr. Veley will be a success and be the next leader in a long line of outstanding GCS Middle/High School Principals.”

Executive Principal Mr. Michael Salatel echoed that sentiment, stating, “Mr. Veley’s steady,thoughtful leadership and clear commitment to the success of every student have had an immediate and positive impact.” He continued, “He embodies the values and spirit of GCS and is fully aligned with our mission to foster academic excellence, personal responsibility, and community engagement.”

As he steps into this permanent role, Mr. Veley brings with him not only years of experience, but a deep-rooted belief in the potential of every student. The district congratulates him on this well-deserved appointment and looks forward to the continued growth and success of Geneseo Middle/High School under his leadership.
