Front of Geneseo Central School District

Geneseo Central School District administrators and its Board of Education have explored ideas for a future capital improvement project.

The district needs to address critical infrastructure issues that affect student education and athletics. The primary driver is the main gymnasium, which is in danger of closing within the next year because of structural deficiencies in the walls and floors.

“There have been a series of unfortunate issues in the gym that are putting us on a path where we need to update the entire space to make it safe for use,” Superintendent Cindy Flowers said. "Although we did not foresee the need for another capital project vote so soon after our previous vote, safety concerns have compelled us to again ask our taxpayers to consider investing in our facilities to ensure a safe learning environment for our students and staff.”

GCS is also exploring options of creating a secure entrance vestibule, relocating Universal Pre-Kindergarten from its current off campus Pride and Joy location to the district’s campus and upgrading the auditorium, including adding student bathrooms to the back of the stage area.

The community will have the opportunity to share feedback about the proposal during a meeting on Oct. 16 at 5:30 p.m in the middle school/high school media center.

Designs of the plans can be found on the district’s Capital Improvement Project web page.
