At Geneseo Central School, our work in curriculum and instruction is centered on a shared commitment to success for all students. We believe students thrive when they experience high-quality instruction, meaningful learning opportunities, responsive support, and a school community where they feel known, valued, and challenged.
As Curriculum Director, I have the privilege of working alongside our teachers, administrators, and support staff to strengthen teaching and learning across our district. I believe our best work happens through collaboration, reflection, and continuous growth—and when the work we do is intentional, connected, and grounded in what our students need.
Our 2026–2028 Professional Learning Plan reflects that belief. District-wide, we are focused on strengthening Tier 1 instruction, using data and MTSS to respond to student needs, supporting collaboration and professional growth, and ensuring all students have access to rigorous and meaningful learning experiences. Our instructional work continues to focus on strong literacy practices, responsive and differentiated instruction, meaningful learning experiences, and practices that support the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally. This year, we are placing a particular emphasis on academic discourse and purposeful questioning across all classrooms, creating more opportunities for students to explain their thinking, build on the ideas of others, ask meaningful questions, and engage more deeply in their learning. These foundational practices also support our continued growth in project-based learning and STEAM, helping students develop the critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving skills reflected in New York State’s Portrait of a Graduate.
We also know that academic success cannot be separated from belonging and well-being. Our GO BLUE traits—Grit, Optimism, Bravery, Leadership, Understanding, and Excellence—provide a foundation for our work around school culture, social-emotional learning, culturally responsive practices, and the skills and dispositions we hope students carry with them beyond Geneseo.
At the heart of all of this is our belief that strong, responsive classroom instruction is our most powerful intervention. Professional learning allows us to continue growing together, learning from one another, and making thoughtful decisions about what will have the greatest impact on students.
Our goal is not simply to add new initiatives, but to continually ask why we do what we do, how our work connects, and how it helps our students learn, grow, belong, and succeed. I am grateful to be part of a GCS community that believes so deeply in our students and in the power of working together to help them learn, grow, and succeed.
