BOE Candidates
Bobbie Steinhauer
Family: My Spouse Aaron, Astronomer at SUNY Geneseo, Oldest child Bailey (GCS Grad 2017) graduated from Georgetown University and received her Law Degree from Indiana University. She is an attorney at Empire Justice in Rochester. Hannah (GCS Grad 2020) graduated from Franklin & Marshall College and is currently serving in the Peace Corps in Peru. I’ve lived in the district for 22 years.
Personal Statement: Serving on the Board for the past 3 years has been an honor. I have learned a tremendous amount and would like to continue to
grow. I am committed to creativity in education and believe that every student should have the opportunity to grow into their best self through their education. Geneseo Central has served my family, and I would like the opportunity to continue to advocate
for students, staff and public education in this role.
Relevant Experience: I coordinated Odyssey of the Mind at Geneseo for over a decade for K-12. I came to understand the importance of creativity and independent thinking for students during that time. I worked as a substitute teacher and then as a paraprofessional in the elementary school 12:1:1 classroom and later in the Middle School. These experiences give me a unique lens into the culture of Geneseo Central. My degree is in nonprofit management and that perspective has brought unique insights.
Matthew Mallaber
Family: My wife Lorrie and I have been married for 23 years and together we have two wonderful children. One currently at GCS in 10th grade and a proud GCS graduate and current Freshman at SUNY Geneseo.
Personal Statement: As a proud resident of Geneseo for 31 years, I am asking for your vote to be re-elected to the Board of Education. It has been a tremendous honor to serve for the past three years alongside wonderful people. I have gained valuable experience on both the policy and audit and finance committees. This past year I have taken on a leadership role in the Audit and Finance committee. I was grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside Craig Phelps on the Audit and Finance committee and learned a great deal before he departed his distinguished term of service to the district. I am truly excited about the work that the Board of Education is currently undertaking as we are in the midst of the creation of the next strategic plan. This strategic plan is forward thinking and aims to prepare students with future ready skills to prepare for the rapidly changing world and job environment. We are hard at work as a committee and district in creating a long-term budget and asset management plan. As a Board we have been
updating the policies of the district to establish a solid foundation for the teachers and administrators to carry forward the important work of educating the children of the community. It has been an honor working with the wonderful teachers, staff and administrative team of the district. With over twenty-five years of managerial experience and 19 years within a governmental agency, I have been a contributing member of the Board of Education for the past three years. I am asking for your vote so that I may have the privilege to continue the work that is under way to move the district forward.
Relevant Experience: I currently work for NYS OPWDD (Office for People With Developmental Disabilities) as a Treatment Team Leader. I am
responsible for leading the management teams of several area group homes that provide oversight and compliance to NYS and Federal regulations. I sit on 6 different committees for my agency and I am an active participant in each. As an advocate for people with disabilities, I understand the value and importance of educational opportunities. I am currently the Vice President for the Friends of Wadsworth Library which helps provide funding through fundraisers and promotion for the valuable programs at the local library.
Roberta Irwin
Family: My husband Bob Irwin and I have been married for 38 years. We raised two daughters in Geneseo. Jaclyn and her husband Matthew, reside in Geneseo with their son Mark. Lauren and her husband Randall reside in Florida.
Personal Statement: I am asking for your vote on May 19, 2026. My focus is to help set the direction of the school district to achieve the highest student performance and student achievement results possible. I will keep the tax payers in mind when helping to develop a budget. I would like to create a partnership with the community and focus future budgets with the input of the community.
Relevant Experience: I am a retired elementary teacher with 32 years of experience. I taught grades k, 1 and 2. I was a grade level rep, and also have experience on the negotiations team for the union. I also served on the Geneseo town board for 8 years. My focus was working on a fiscally responsible budget. I enjoyed working with the community during my 8 years on this board.
