  • Dear Parents/Guardians,

Thank you so much for your patience and understanding as we work through various phases of our school closing.  This letter is to inform you that starting today we will have online learning resources available for your child.  Mrs. Flowers’ letter will direct you to where you can access these resources on our district website.  For our building, you will see a folder labeled “K-5 Online Resources.”   Inside this folder you and your child will see Grade Level, Special Area, and Math & Reading Resources folders.  There are also folders that say “paper copies” where you can print out materials if you would like to.  Our goal was to be responsible with the amount of copies we printed out and do as much as possible online.  For our younger students in particular, you will find suggestions on some fine motor and gross motor activities.  Our PE teachers have also included an activity log in which our students can track their physical activity.  We are keeping in mind the “whole child” and realize the importance of our students having a balance of things to do and not being on a computer the entire time.  I am very proud of the resources our teachers have put together.  I know how difficult this is for them not to physically be in their classrooms teaching their students.

We will be following the guidance of the NYS Education Department to ensure we fulfill our responsibilities in supporting your child’s education.   As we progress through this school closure, and receive more information on how long we will be closed, we will update and add to these folders.  Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher directly if you have any questions about assignments or resources.

If your child or you are in need of any support with accessing apps, websites, google classroom, etc.. Mrs. Weingaertner at erinweingaertner@geneseocsd.org is one of our “in-house” experts and has offered to field any questions.  Mr. Holt, our Director of Technology, can also be of assistance at johnholt@geneseocsd.org with any technical difficulties you might have.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me as well should you have any questions.  Thank you again for all of your support, and please know how much we miss being with our students.

    Sincerely,

    Kelly Sattora

    Dear Parents/Guardians and Students:

I hope this correspondence finds you healthy and in good spirits.  The purpose of this communication is to inform you on how to access instructional and learning materials for your student.  Individual teachers will be emailing all families with specific instructions on how to find this information pertaining to their class.  I know that some teachers are already ahead of schedule and have shared this information over the past few days.

Teachers will be checking their emails on a regular basis, so please feel free to contact them directly via email, if you have any questions.   Due to the likelihood of teachers receiving multiple emails, please be patient and allow 24 hours for teachers to respond to your questions.  This is a general timeframe because some teachers will be able to respond in a much shorter time period.  As you can imagine, this is all new territory for teachers and students, so your patience and support are deeply appreciated.  Providing learning opportunities to students in this format will most likely result in us encountering some difficulties. We’ll do our best to attempt to make appropriate adjustments as needed.  Please feel free to contact your student’s teacher or me, if you need additional support.

In closing, there are many questions and concerns that still remained unanswered.   How long will students remain out of school?  Will Regents Exams still be administered in June?  What happens to grades 6-8 testing?  Will the prom, spring sports season, trips, graduation, etc., still take place?  How will students be graded?  These are a few of the many questions still hanging out there.  Our district is committed to making decisions based on information and guidance received from the NYSED, County Health Department, and other resources as they become available.  Please have confidence that all plans and decisions made by our district will have your student’s best interest in mind.

Our number one priority will continue to be ensuring the health and safety for all of our students and families.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.  Be well and take care of yourself!!

    Sincerely,

    Michael Salatel
