    In the spring of 2012, Geneseo Central School District registered its domain name (geneseocsd.org) with Google Apps for Education.  This allowed us to move all of our staff e-mail accounts over to Gmail accounts, saving the district money and providing much more space and dependability with our e-mail system.  Google Accounts are much more than just e-mail.  They allow people to share calendars and also create and collaborate on documents, spreadsheets, and presentations using Google Drive.  To learn more about Google Apps for Education, click here.
     
    We will be setting up Google Accounts for all of our students (with parent permission).  Students in grades K-5 will not be using the e-mail feature.  They will only be using Google Drive, allowing them to work on documents, spreadsheets, and slideshows from anywhere that they have Internet access.  Students in grades 6-8 will be using the e-mail feature, but will only be able to send and receive e-mail to people in the geneseocsd.org domain.  Students in grades 9-12 will be allowed to send and receive e-mail to anyone that has any e-mail account.
     
    We believe that there are many benefits of what the Google Accounts allow our students to do.  We also believe that the earlier that we work with students on these accounts, the more likely it is that they will make good choices online.  Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns regarding these accounts.
